November 30 FMS T-28B

One uneventful flight today.

November 30 P-47

One flight today with no repeat of previous pulsing/low power problem. Still very erratic on takeoff.

November 23 P-47

Had repeat of pulsing/low power as experienced on October 26th. Battery was not low on voltage.Something else going on.

November 23 FMS T-28B

Attempted takeoff aborted due to one blade of prop departed. Replaced prop and proceeded to fly. On landing, I bounced too hard and broke another prop.

November 16 FMS T-28B

One flight today.

November 16 P-47

One flight today.

October 26 P-47

Two flights today. On first part of first flight the motor was pulsing like a low battery. I landed and did full power ground check and everything was OK. Took off again and the problem did not return. Made second flight with a different battery and noticed ship seemed tail heavy. Made first gear retraction and extension without any problem.

October 26 FMS T-28B

One flight today.

October 8 P-47

One flight today during the SVF Fun Fly.

September 28 FMS T-28B

One flight today, also let Mark fly it. He was impressed with this little T-28.

September 28 Rhapsody

Mark Penikas flew the maiden flight. Airplane flies very well. Had an unexpected loss of power after about 5 minutes flying time. Motor stopped and Mark said no response to controls. Luckily the airplane landed in a bush just off the runway and suffered no damage. The controls worked after retrieving the airplane, and when walking the model back to the pits, the ESC beeped as though power had just been applied. Checked all connections and found nothing wrong. Changed batteries and did a wattmeter check. The motor draws about 46 amps at full throttle. Did another flight of about 7 minutes duration and this time everything was OK. When I connected the battery to the charger it showed the fuel level at 30%

July 14 UltraStick 25e

One flight today, no problems.

July 14 ParkZone Extra 300

On takeoff airplane veered sharply to the left and struck the safety fence. Minor damage to cowl and broken prop.

July 1 Blitzworx P-38

Attempted maiden flight abandoned. Nose gear would not lock down. Corrected that problem, then discovered nose steering was reversed with no easy way to change. Tried takeoff from center of runway which failed due to starboard motor now binding on cowl. This airplane being relagated to the junk pile.

June 30 ParkZone Extra 300

Maiden flight and second flight went well. There was a good breeze blowing which made landings difficult.

June 30 Ultra Stick 25e

On maiden flight airplane would not respond to controls and landed in the brush. No damage other than a small hole in the covering. Inspection revealed the ESC would not power the motor but would power the servos.

November 12 T-28

Two flights today. Second landing caused nose gear to rotate in its mount. The screw apparently not sufficient to maintain alignment.

October 29 T-28

Three flights today. Last flight ended in a rough landing due to low battery voltage loss of power. Nose gear separated from mount and prop was broken.

October 28 Ultra Stick 25e

One flight ending in a crash. While attempting to change aileron trim and lost control resulting in a spin into the brush. Not repairable.

October 27 Ultra Stick 25e

Two flights today with second flight ending in a collapsed nose landing gear due to a rough landing.

October 1 N3814W

Two flights today.

October 1 T-34 ePTS

One flight today with 5 landings and takeoff's. Secret to avoid abrupt left turn on takeoff is to advance throttle smoothly to full power.

September 30 N3814W

One flight today which brings the total number of flight to 26 to date. About 4 hours and 30 minutes air time.

September 30 T-28

Two flights today. All went well.

September 30 T-34 EPTS

Maiden flight today. First attempt at takeoff resulted in run off in the brush to the left. The canopy also flew off. Second attempt at takeoff also had a severe torque turn to the left, the canopy came adrift again, but I did manage to get airborne. Made a few circuits of the pattern and made a successful, but not too pretty landing. Post flight inspection did not reveal any reason for poor ground handling. Put a couple of right rudder clicks and will try again tomorrow. Canopy retentions still a problem.

September 29 N3814W

Just one flight today.

September 29 T-28

Two flights today. Need to increase low rates on the Ailerons.

September 25 N3814W

One flight today.

September 17 T-28

Two flights today. All went well for a change.

September 16 N3814W

One flight only as the wind came up.

September 15 T-28

One flight today with the ParkZone 3 blade prop was cut short due to a strange noise when under full power. I landed and switched to the standard two blade prop. Subsequent flight was normal. At home I checked the balance of the three blade props and found them greatly out of balance.

September 3 N3814W

One flight today with servos secured and setting of the push rods set to attain maximum throws, the airplane flies like it is supposed to.

September 3 AT-6 Texan

The maiden flight ended in a crash. The airplane was very sensitive to aileron control and had too much elevator authority. The airplane entered a spin which it was recovered and immediately entered another spin which could not be corrected. The airplane flew into the embankment and suffered considerable damage. Post mortem inspection did not reveal any problem with the radio.

August 26 T-28

One flight today. All was good for a change.

August 26 N3814W

Two flights today. After almost a month between flying sessions I was pretty rusty. Some time in the past the elevator neutral position was down about 3 degrees, limiting the amount of up elevator travel. This was the cause of several hard landings due to insufficient up elevator travel. Adjusted to remove down elevator bias, will see how it goes on subsequent flights.

July 30 T-28

One flight before wind came up. bad landing tore right main gear loose from wing. Easy fix to plug it back in and add some packing tape to the mount.

July 30 N3814W

Had same experience with motor not putting out enough power. Replaced battery and second flight was OK, except a couple of touch and go's resulted in a bent landing gear. Shop tests of battery believed to be bad were inconclusive as both batteries produced same results on wattmeter.

July 30 Busy-Bee

One flight with Vado video cam aboard. Flight was OK, some torque roll on takeoff. Video was not what I wanted, too much sky and not enough ground. Camera needs to be pointed down some more.

July 23 N3814W

One and a half flights today. The first flight was cut short as the motor was not putting out full power. Changed battery and flew second flight which ended with a bad landing and a broken prop. The battery used for the first flight checked OK.I don't know what the problem was.

July 2 N3814W

Two flights today. Everything OK.

July 2 Busy-Bee

Maiden flight today. Not enough elevator travel and Aileron trim is excessive. Probably has enough power to carry my Vado video camera.

June 25 Begin-Air

Attempted two takeoffs resulting in uncontrollable right turn and landing in ravine. Not enough power to use as an AP platform.

June 25 N3814W

Two flights today. Everything OK.

June 25 T-28

One flight today. Needed down elevator trim, otherwise OK.

June 18 N3814W

One flight today. Nothing to report.

June 18 T-28

Maiden flight of replacement T-28. Was erratic on takeoff. Nose wheel needs to be adjusted to steer straight.

June 9 T-28

One flight today. The airplane was lost as it flew out of sight and probably crashed near the freeway or in the camp ground area. I could not see any trace of the airplane from the road to the field. I hope somebody finds it and calls me.

June 9 N3814W

One flight today. Still having ground handling problems. Seems insufficient rudder travel to the left.

June 9 Wild Hawk

Maiden flight went OK. This airplane was being considered for airborne video, but does not have sufficient power to carry the added weight of my video camera.

June 4 Ultimate Bipe

One flight today to set trims after long layoff. Battery only provided about 6 minutes of power forcing a downwind landing.

June 4 T-28

Only one flight today, I left the spare batteries at home. Grrrr.

June 3 T-28

Two flights today. Nose wheel needs to be centered.

May 28 Telemaster Electro

One flight with Vado Pocket Cam attached. Captured 10 minutes of in flight video. Quality of video is OK, but there is too much movement of the airplane which causes erratic pictures.

May 28 T-28

One flight with the new aluminum engine mount. Works fine. This airplane still exhibits tendency to tip stall at landing speed.

May 22 N2337L

One flight today. Wind was coming up.

May 22 T-28v2

Two flights today. Discovered strange buzzing sound was due to a broken motor mount. Now replaced with an aluminum mount.

May 18 T-28 v2

One flight only. Still seems to want to climb under power even after adding about 4 degrees of down thrust. Now running a 10x7 3 blade prop.

April 23 Graupner T-28

Two flights today. Finally trimmed, but is slow on response to control inputs. Not to my liking. Going to relegate to hangar duty.

April 22 Ultra Stick 25e

Lost control on takeoff. Crashed into concrete barrier. Fuselage destroyed, one connection on ECS pulled from circuit board.

April 16 Graupner T-28

First flight since correcting elevator problem and setting aileron low rate. Elevator too much throw and this airplane reacts violently when making sharp turns. It had a tendency to pitch down unexpectedly which resulted in a minor confrontation with a tree.

April 16 Ultra Stick 25

Just one flight today since replacing the Rx. The ailerons were on 100% at low rate making it quite squirrely.

April 14 T-28 v2

Maiden flight today with E-Flite Power 10 outrunner. The plane went vertical on takeoff, and continued to climb rapidly until throttle was reduced to about 20%. It appears more down thrust will be required, and perhaps a smaller prop too.

April 9 Graupner T-28

Maiden flight today. Too much aileron and not enough elevator control. Set Aileron low rate to 50% with 35% exponential. Found elevator joiner not secured in elevator resulting in loss of movement on one side. Epoxied the elevator joiner and reset neutral position ready to try on next flight.

April 8 T-28

One flight ending in a crash due to loss of orientation.

April 7 N2337L

Made one flight.

April 7 T-28

Two flights today. Some tendency to stall turn to the left. Removed 1 oz of nose weight.

March 26 T-28

Just one flight today.

March 26 N2337L

Took Nathan and Eli to the field today. made one flight.

March 25 SPADboy

One aborted takeoff with the airplane striking a tree and crashing. Minimal damage, but landing gear not found. Plane is repairable but the propulsion system is going into a new Graupner T-28. RIP SPADboy.

March 24 T-28

Made one very short flight. No power. Suspect battery not at full capacity. Will check voltage when at home.

March 24 SPADboy

One flight today. Takeoff's are exciting. Must learn to not apply up elevator and to use plenty of right rudder. Harder tires help with the bouncing on landing. Noticed a crack in fuselage where landing gear attaches. Will attempt repair. Also vertical fin attach not secure, will add bolts and nuts to replace screws.

March 19 T-28

One flight today. It takes some getting used to this models characteristics after flying the SPADboy.

March 19 SPADboy

Three flights today. The down thrust definitely helps. Still wants to pitch up at takeoff and veer sharply left. Smooth gradual application of power while holding some right rudder is key to a successful takeoff.

March 18 SPADboy

Two flights today. This airplane tends to pitch up violently on full power application. Tried trimming, but not much help. Added about 5 degrees down thrust. Will fly again tomorrow weather permitting.

March 12 T-28

Found elevator high rate had been selected inadvertently. Switched to low rate and everything OK. Two flights. Adjusted nose wheel steering linkage to correct left turn.

March 12 SPADboy

Maiden flight today. Adjusted low rates for ailerons and elevator. Second flight much better.

March 11 T-28

One flight today. Something squirrely in the controls. Need to check low rates and expo.

March 10 T-28

Just one more flight today. Was a little breezy so didn't fly again.

March 5 N2337L

One flight today before wind came up.

March 5 T-28

One flight today. All seemed OK except needed some down trim and nose wheel still pulling to the left.

March 5 A-10

Flew once around the pattern, this plane woefully under powered. Will try a 3S LiPo which should boost the power if the brushed motors can stand the increased voltage.

Feb 28 N3814W

One flight today. This airplane still has a tendency to not want to turn left. I think the wing is warped.

Feb 13 Electric Basic Trainer

Maidened my EBT. Too sensitive for my taste in pitch and yaw. This model has plenty of power and flies nice. Set low rates on elevator and rudder to 67%. Second flight much better, but I will add some exponential to further smooth the controls.

Feb 13 N2337L

One flight today with several touch and go landings.

Feb 13 N3814W

One flight today with wing without ailerons. This plane turns to the right OK, but not so good to the left.

Feb 11 N2337L

One flight today on old faithful.

Feb 11 T-28

Two flights today. It is handling better with 60% exponential but now too little aileron authority. Second flight in gusty wind

Feb 11 N3814W

One flight today. I am not happy with ailerons on this bird. Plan is to use spare wing without ailerons and see how it flies.

Feb 6 T-28

One flight today. Some exponential needed for the rudder and elevator.

Feb 6 N2337L

Two flights today.

Jan 15 N2337L

Two flights  today with the second flight ending in the gully. A little crosswind and a rough touch and go resulted in a broken propeller and a loss of power led to oops.

Jan 10 N2337L

Two flights today, with the second flight resulting in loss of power at south end of runway. Was able to land just off the runway with no damage. Examination of the motor power leads on the bench revealed one wire had become detached from the circuit board. Looks repairable.

2008

Nov 29 T-28 Maiden

First flight today. Looks like a dual rate of about 60% is good for the ailerons. It floats on landing, and the wheels are marginally small even though I am flying off of a paved runway.

Nov 9 N3814W Maiden

Flew first time today was very squirrelly and the flight was cut short. Balance checked OK, and some up elevator was trimmed out. Will try again to see if the problem persists.
